Mascot Monthly Cleaning Instructions

Mascots treated with TLC can last for 10 years or more!

It is suggested that the maintenance cleaning outlined below be completed at least once a month, more frequently if you have a busy Event performance schedule.

A quick cleaning--post Event, that is, after each Event you attend, will keep your mascot costume fresh and ready for use. See Daily Cleaning Instructions link below for detailed instructions to follow after each Event.

Head or Unibody

  1. Steam clean your Mascot head or Unibody using a portable steam cleaner's upholstery wand and a mild detergent.

  2. Use a stain remover to get out tough stains. (Always test cleaners on an inconspicuous piece of fabrics to clean, to check for colorfastness.)

  3. After stain removal & steam cleaning set the costume parts to dry on a rack in front of a fan for 24 hours. Never store your mascot costume while it is still wet. Always dry it well for several hours before putting it away.

  4. When the fabric is dry, brush out any fun fur with a wire brush. Smooth any fabric with a lint brush.

Feet Forms

  1. Mascot Costume Foot forms should be steam cleaned as described above for the head form. Block open slightly to allow the interior surfaces to dry as well as the exterior.

Body Forms

  1. Body forms are made of a different type of foam than the head and feet forms. This foam is machine washable with detergent and cold water. Hang to dry...ensure the body form is completely dry before storing costume.

  2. NEVER expose fun fur to high temperatures or direct heat, such as a dryer or iron--it will melt! Do not bleach. Do not dryclean. Machine wash with cold water and mild detergent. Hang to dry. Brush out when dry with a wire brush. Smooth out all other fabrics with a lint brush.

  3. If any costume piece, like a tail, is too big for any available washing machines it can be cleaned in the same manner as the head and feet.
